We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
—2 Peter 1:19
There’s an old teaching—The darker the night, the brighter the light. The past few weeks have had some core-shaking evil developments including NY passing a “reproductive bill” which does the exact opposite—and murders children that have been produced up to the very moment of birth. Virginia just proposed a similar bill. What’s wrong with our country that this does not rock us to our core? How can a group of law makers cheer, celebrate, and light up iconic buildings and bridges to commemorate such an evil milestone?
This is just one facet of the growing evil in the world, and it is a measurable, Biblical, sign-of-the-times. There are many others. It is easy for us to get discouraged in our day—unless we understand Bible prophecy! While much of Christendom addresses (and rightly so) the struggles of daily life, how to live for Christ, how to know Christ and share our faith, it often neglects a critical component that should be leveraged in all of those areas—an understanding of Bible prophecy.
Fulfilled Bible prophecy gives us confidence we can trust God’s word and a study of end-time signs lets us know we are amazingly close to the end of the age. The verse above highlights this for us and reminds us of five specific things that many people overlook—at the very time we need them most.
- The message of scripture is prophetic in nature.
- Prophecy proves that Scripture is completely reliable.
- We should pay attention to it!
- Bible prophecy is the very thing that gives us the light we need to see in a dark place.
- The dawn is coming. Jesus’ return is certain!
It doesn’t get any clearer than that when it comes to Bible prophecy! This one verse lets every believer know that Bible prophecy is not just a relevant topic of study, but the main thing that makes every other Biblical topic relevant for us today!
